What I Want You to Know
Two weeks ago I gave a breakfast presentation to a group of people that I network with.
Every 6 months or so, it is my turn to speak and talk about my business. The segments are short – only 10 minutes – so it is hard to pack a lot of information into such a small timeframe. I also strive to be interesting and funny. After all, my audience is barely awake.
Unfortunately, there is no humour in the information that I like to pass along. I just aim to get their attention and keep them engaged, especially since it is so early in the morning.
I had less time to prepare too as my scheduled date was supposed to be at the end of this month. I had therefore been putting off thinking about it. To my chagrin, I was asked to switch with another presenter so that meant throwing something together over the Easter long weekend. I panicked but managed to pull it off. It went well, so I thought that I would share some of these same ideas with you.
So, here’s my question to you: Are you afraid of dying too early? (I have an app for that.) Do you lie awake at night worrying about cancer? (I have an app for that.) What about a heart attack or stroke? Any fears there? (I have an app for that.) Got Diabetes or is your blood sugar creeping up? (I have an app for that too.)
Do you even know what an app is? If not, you need to look it up before you read on.
Why is it that we have an app for everything today….but no cures for the diseases that I just mentioned? Hmmm, that’s food for thought. (We actually do have lots of cures but we are restricted from talking about them.)
Do you know when the last time we officially cured anything was? It was polio way back in the 50’s. Yesterday, I received an email full of reminiscing about that era. (Of course, I am too young to remember any of that stuff.) Anyway, that was 60 years ago and longer than most of the people reading this story are old. Surely, after all this time, you would think that we would have a cure for something else? Nope.
We have the greatest minds and technology in many countries around the world today. Why has no one created an “app” for the cure?
$$$$$$ – it’s all about the money.
“Sick care” brings in billions of dollars each year and nobody wants to give that up. Do you realize how many people would be out of work if we found a cure just for cancer?
Millions. It’s April and Cancer month, have they found a cure yet?
Before I started to study natural medicine, almost 13 years ago, I was afraid of what was going to happen to my health as I got older.
I’d heard all the stories. I was afraid of menopause. I was scared of all the invasive testing that I would have to endure like mammograms, barium enemas, endoscopies and colonoscopies. I thought that I would have to take medications too. My parents did.
All the older people I knew had something wrong with them. My parents both had gout and, when I asked my doctor what my chances of getting it were, she said “100%”. That was 25 years ago. I am now much older than both of my parents were when they got it but I still don’t have it. (Gout is too much uric acid in the blood and it gives you an excruciating pain in the big toe.)
Just because you are pre-disposed to something does not mean that you will automatically be doomed to inherit it. I cannot emphasize this enough. Of course, it all depends on your habits and your lifestyle. If you throw caution to the wind and ignore your health, you will likely get whatever hangs around your family tree.
You cannot be reckless with your health and expect the system to fix you either. It will just not happen. Instead, they will give you 5 years, if you are lucky.
When I went back to school, I learned that great health was totally in my control and that I wouldn’t have to worry about a thing…..if I just did what was right and paid attention to my body. I didn’t always. I just smartened up sooner than later.
I was set free from worry.
I have found the answer to staying healthy as I age and I would love to share it with you.
Not today though. That will be another newsletter. Until next time………….

Love this. I enjoyed reading both stories. You are really making things happen. Frances
