Ten Heart Smart Hints
It’s Nothing You Haven’t Heard Before
1. Eat right for your blood type. All the blood is pumped to and from the heart. Doesn’t it make sense to eat properly so that everything flows freely without any obstructions? Eating the right foods will keep your heart from being overworked.
2. Lose weight – especially the fat around the middle. Those who have an apple shape are more prone to heart disease.
3. Eat lots of fiber-rich fruits and vegetables every day and also take a powdered fiber supplement every morning. One tablespoon of a good quality fiber supplement containing psyllium, flax or hemp, in juice or water, will aid in cleansing your arteries, eliminate the cholesterol and lower your numbers to an optimum level. Fiber binds to fats and cholesterol in the gut so that the body will eliminate it rather than absorb it.
4. Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. All our organs work best when they are well-hydrated. If we don’t drink enough water, we will still eliminate 3 litres every day. Where do you think the body will find the water to get rid of? It will start pulling it out of all the organs and that includes the heart. It will then start to shrink and deteriorate in its functioning.
5. Check your blood pressure regularly and do everything you can to keep it at the best level possible. When it is high, your heart has to work harder to push the blood into the arteries. That sets the stage for disaster.
6. Get 8 hours of sleep every night. The heart, as well as other parts of the body, is repaired at night while we sleep. Running on very little sleep is like driving your car on fumes and not filling the gas tank. You will certainly run out of gas at the wrong time.
7. Supplements such as Calcium-Magnesium, Vitamins A, B, C and E and CoQ10 are great for the heart. Essential Fatty Acids like Omega 3’s also reduce inflammation and help to support heart rhythm.
8. Get off the couch and get that heart pumping! Doing cardio exercises for 30 minutes a minimum of 3 times per week is the least you should do.
9. If you smoke, quit. Enough said.
10. Have an affair of the heart and keep it fluttering. A happy life is the best medicine for a healthy heart.
